 When global logistics and courier delivery company DHL decided to modernize its global Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) system, they turned to SnapStack. In response to another core challenges identified by DHL, our collaboration centered around creating an improved HR operations framework on which the future of their HR management could thrive.

DHL's existing ETL system on IBM's DB2 brought several roadblocks. Besides hardware limitations, it was an uphill task ensuring a seamless transition that maintained data integrity and minimized downtime. The biggest hurdle was modernizing their ETL system with an updated architecture that could handle their globe-spanning operations and make it future-ready. Plus, DHL, operating across diverse regions with individual HR systems, ran into the challenge of siloed databases. This fragmentation was preventing a unified and streamlined global HR approach. It appeared crucial to consolidate data from four different divisions, providing a centralized platform for efficient HR-related processes and thorough data management.

Solution

Relying on our technical expertise, we devised a winning migration strategy. Drawing on MSSQL for its robust data management capabilities and Azure for its scalable and secure cloud infrastructure, the team crafted a solution that went beyond just the technical aspects of migration. It accounted for DHL's specific operating needs, scalability requirements, and anticipated future expansion. The migration also included a meticulous data mapping phase and was executed to minimize disruption to DHL's operations. 

To help with their HR operations, our solution emerged in the shape of a Global Human Resources Information System (HRIS). Engineered to seamlessly merge and synchronize HR-related data, this solution allowed for a holistic view of HR operations across different divisions. Further, the user-friendly interface empowered HR professionals across DHL’s global network and simplified data management. 

Our project relied on combining diverse technologies to offer robust database management, integrated enterprise resource planning and collaborative content management. This fusion of technologies facilitated data integration, streamlined workflows and improved document management, ultimately providing a singular platform from which all HR processes could be monitored and improved.

The process involved meticulous planning, data mapping, and the development of a phased approach to minimize disruption. Our team worked closely with DHL's IT professionals to understand the intricacies of their existing systems and design a plan that would meet their needs.

Results

The migration to MSSQL and Azure generated transformative results. There was a 60% increase in the efficiency of DHL's ETL processes, ensuring more streamlined and accurate data transformation, leading to improved operational efficiency. DHL also reported an improvement in system performance by 50% due to the implementation of the cloud architecture designed by SnapStack. This led to boosted real-time responsiveness, underpinning improved decision-making processes.

The migration to the cloud resulted in amplified flexibility, reducing the time required to adopt new features by 70%, compared to traditional on-premise solutions. Plus, the scalability of the implemented solution we delivered allowed DHL to handle an 80% increase in data volumes without additional investment in resources, boosting cost-effectiveness. As for the HRIS system: post-deployment, the new system is packed with a detailed view of HR-related data, enabling seamless collaboration and data sharing across divisions. DHL is now witnessing Improved efficiency in managing employee records, streamlined processes, and increased data accuracy by 35%. Most notably, this universal HRIS contributed significantly towards fostering a more cohesive, modern and responsive HR framework within DHL.
